Boring things to say in profiles text or audio

How come everyone says or mostly everyone says in their profiles things like, "I like music", "I like making new friends", "I like to hang out with friends"?

Talk about dull, and repetitive!

Post 2 by _rory_ (predictable kryptic) on Sunday, 14-Nov-2004 16:48:34

ok? Why don't you enlighten us with things you wouldn't find dull or boring? I noticed you failed to do that.

I'm one of the people who has a voice part to my profile, but I didn't even post my interests, yet. But I think it's that the main thing is that we want peple to know what we sound like, and that's cool for the eple who can put their voice on their profiles because reguardless of what we choose to say on it, peple will still get to hear something, and just that, I think, makes the profile interesting. *smiles*

I did not claim to be the all knowing authoritive figure on profiles merely I offered an opinion about what seems to be out there so far. I'd like to thank you for your helpful contribution though.

Well, that came off kind of rude, but after reading your last response; I get it now.
I believe the reason people post there interests is because it's the most common thing, or the first thing that comes to mind when you are trying to think of things to tell people. I mean, in the profiles, you are trying to get peoples attention, right? With that said, what other way to get people to listen or want to talk to you if they know you have some of the same interests as they do?

Post 6 by Dj paddy (The irish Cranky geek) on Sunday, 14-Nov-2004 17:37:08

Erm my comments wern't in regards to peoples interests as a whole, or concerning audio profiles. They where specifically at stuff like I like making new friends. It's a bit of a no brainer statement. It opens the door for those wittless people who'll think their cool by throwing in they hate making new friends and please don't contact them thus the endless cycle of the net moron continues.

Post 9 by lawlord (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 14-Nov-2004 18:47:37

tell you what, my profile's interesting! it's the most interesting profile in the world and it beats all the other profiles on the zone into a cocked hat! I confess that I hate making friends, like nothing better than moaning about the weather and feeling sorry for myself whilst moaning about how everything was so much better in days of yore, and I even sign off by saying 'right I'm off to have dinner with Dr Hannibal Lecter tonight'! that's interesting, isn't it? strange how nobody's wanted to talk to me though.....DJ Paddy, the reason people make the brainless statements rather than being all weard and whicky on their profiles is the same reason why when you first meet a stranger you're all polite the first time you have a conversation (Or at least I presume you are!). Only trouble is, you're not face to face with a stranger at the introduction to this conversation; you're face to face with hundreds, thousands perhaps, of unknown strangers and you want to say something that may hopefully get people talking to you. That's why the best thing to do is to use the same old lines because at the end of the day, people respond to that. If you make it more interesting later on then so much the better, but it's bleedin' fifficult when you don't know to whom you're talking. Anyway I must go now as the saucepan of animal blood on the stove has just come to the boil. throw another peasant on the fire there butler!

*claps hands* Law Lord. That is one of the most intellegent and witty replys I've seen on here!

Fair play to ya!

And yes, you do have a fairly decent profile.

For my part, I like reading anybody's profile on here, no matter what they put. Within reason. What I don't like is a completely blank one! Lol. For some reason that irks me ...

well as for my profile, the reason it was boring was because I felt pressured because I only had 60 seconds and was trying to say as much as I could under that kind of pressure, and oh yes, crime of crimes, I actually used it for what a profile is actually for, telling a bit about yourself, shame shame shame on me.

This, is the reason why I haven't bothered to post anything in my profile. I simply don't want to list the same old stuff. We all like making friends, we all listen to music of one form or another, etc. I don't even think I'm an interesting person, and since I do not find myself interesting, I wouldn't want to bore others with my uninteresting profile. If people want to get to know me, by all means, drop me a message. I was going to point out why I feel people do this, but LL beat me to it! Kinda scarry to know that my brain waves follow those of a future lawyer. JK

Indeed, people who leave their profiles empty and just invite you to ask loads of questions are those users who really get on my nerves. I work on the principle that if you can't take the trouble to write down a few pearls of wisdom, or stupidity as the case may be, about yourself then you're either unable to string a sentence together or else not that interesting. so fill up your profiles, you slackers!

Maybe some lack the confidence to be witty or urbane and it's a real strain for these people to say something entertaining and rib breakingly spontaneous...

Lol guys. I just wanted to say that I applaud people who have stuff in their profiles. I like looking at profiles, and I love it when someone actually took the time to put forth some info. I don't care how bad or good, I appreciate the effort. And it gives me something to base them on. Like, if they're someone I think I should try and get to know or not.

Hi Caitlin,
I gave your profile a ten. I rate profiles on the basis of friendliness.

Thansk Wonderwoman. I would like to redo my voice profile, but I don't know what else to do to make it more interesting.

I agree with LawLord. Another thing that irritates me a little bit is people who just put movie clips or music clip or something like that in their profile (audio profile to be exact). Of course those can be really cool and everything but I click on the profile to hear the person's voice and make that person more than just a screen name. So it doesn't really matter what they say it's just them saying something so I have a voice to go with the online persona. :) If they manage to be witty on top of that that's brilliant actually but basic "hi, my name is bleah bleah" is fine with me. I suppose I'm not a picky profile browser. ;)

I'd rather hear a persons' voice also, it's rather interesting to hear a persons voice after texting with them. I don't know what I can do to make my audio profile more interesting either, and I had such trouble with the first time, I had to do it probably about 5 or 6 times before Igot it uploaded, anyway, I think mine pretty much says me anyway. I'm just not one of those witty cut up clowns, I'm just me, boring or not.

well profiles are mostly to know others. I don't like blank profiles or a bunch of noices in audio profiles. I mean people who puts a song instead of their audio profiles. I like liam's ones since they are creative. He doesn't say so much about himself in them, but they are funny.

Post 24 by Godzilla-On-Toast (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 26-Nov-2004 1:06:27

Really, I don't mind if somebody puts a song or movie clip. Sure, it's not their voice, but they're doing something unexpected and different. Why follow the rules and be boring, right?

Besides, if you think about it; a movie clip or music clip can say something about the person. Just depends on what they choose. I mean; simply choose a clip from their favorite movie or song wouldn't, but what if they chose something that they felt explained them? I know of quite a few songs that explain me better then I can.
